DROUGHT PERSISTS

WESTERN N.S. WALES HEAVY STOCK LOSSES (9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 1. The drought conditions in western New .South Wales have not yet broken, although there have been some light rainfalls. Reports from five districts disclose that 1,200,000 sheep and cattle have died this year. A sharp increase in the losses is expected during the summer months ahead unless early rainfalls relieve the situation.

Stock inspectors report that thousands of gaunt and starving sheep are wandering over the plains, where scarcely a blade of grass is left. They are eating scrub, sticks and leaves.
