REPRESENTATIVE COMMITTEE It was reported at the monthly meeting of the Poverty Hay Women’s Representative Committee, held in the Plunket rooms, that £lO had been realised at the jumble sale recently sponsored by the committee for patriotic purposes.

The support of: organisations was sought for the stocking of the various patriotic stalls at the forthcoming A. and P. Show. Gifts of needlework, toys, flowers, plants and produce, together with contributions for the bran tub, would he most acceptable, and >*• was mentioned that the committee Would be glad to receive donations of needlework and toys at the patriotic shop by November 3.

Mrs. P. Hockley occupied the chair. ANGLICAN WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION The chair was taken by Mrs. H. Gilmer at a well-attended meeting of the recentlyformed Anglican Women’s Association held in the Parish Hall, Derby street, on Saturday afternoon. The association was formed with the object of promoting, in women, a keener realisation of their responsibilities towards their church, for the encouragement o.' friendly fellowship among the parishioners and also for the purpose of assisting the vestry of Holy Trinity Church in its financial commitments.

Various matters were discussed, and it was decided to hold a garden party at the home of Mrs. G. W. Willock, Haronga road, on Saturday, December 2. HANDKERCHIEF TEA Gifts of very attractive handkerchiefs were 'received by Miss Mary Fergusson, whose marriage to Corporal P. Campbell, Dunedin, will take place shortly, at the delightful party given for her by Mrs It. Andrew at her home ill Stout street on Saturday afternoon. Golden broom and mauve statice were artistically in the decorative scheme. The hostess was wearing a graceful frock of cinnamon brown cloque. Miss Fergusson, who is attached to the W.A.A.C., was in uniform.

Elliott. LAWN TENNIS Pink roses wore chosen by the hostesses, Mrs. J. Hill and Miss M. Henshavv, for the decoration of the tea table at the Metropolitan Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. Among the players were Mesdames W. Dunpby, J. llconey, D. Herival, McFadyen and G. Waple; Misses A. Davie, M. Hour shaw, R. Aldridge, P. Herival, J. Mclntyle. and E. Linton.

Clement, at the monthly meeting of the literary circle oi thg Gisborne Women’s Club, held yesterday afternoon.

Owing to the indisposition of Mrs. E. Trowel I, Mrs. F. R. Hill was appointed as temporary secretary.

The subject chosen for study was ’'Personalities and Events in the News,” and an article entitled ’’Who Can Take Over From Germany," by William Shirer, was jointly contributed by Mrs. V. Clement and Mrs. N. Hooper. Other readings included ‘Man Smuts," by Georgian, Mrs. Woodward; "The Latest News from China," by Nurse Annie James. Mrs. 11. Jones; excerpts from "The Atlantic Meeting," by H. V. Morton, Mrs. H. Holmes; “Travelling To-day—Wartime Restrictions," and an article from "’1 he Scotsman.” Miss McLean. A preliminary rehearsal of tile play to be presented at the club’s Christmas party also engaged the attention of the members. "Miscellaneous Poems" was the subject set down for discussion at the November meeting. .
