NEW MOTOR TRUCKS

SUPPLY AVAILABLE SOON (P.AJ WELLINGTON, April 21. The Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, announced that the Government would shortly have available for user-operators a number of new motor trucks. "The Government realises the difficulty oi road transport operators in maintaining services for carrying out many wartime duties, but it has only recently been possible to obtain trucks for other than military purposes," he said. "It will be realised even then that the quantity available to the Dominion is extremely small. The colossal demand for trucks throughout the Allied nations has restricted their availability to the point where only the strongest advocacy on the part of the Government enabled us to obtain even the small quantity available and it is therefore desirable that all users of trucks should restrict their demands to the minimum. Accordingly, the Commissioner of Transport will soon be in a position ;o allocate these trucks according to their priority of essentiality, and advertisements will shortly appear in the press explaining the method users are to follow in applying for consideration to purchase. "It is desirable to stress this point —that in view of the fact that these trucks have only been made available to New Zealand on our undertaking that such trucks will be distributed solely for war purposes, direct or indirect, it should be understood that only those applicants who come under the eligibility list can be granted these vehicles.”
