GISBORNE CENTRE REPORT A successful season both from the sporting and financial side is.- reviewed in the annual report of the Gisborne-East Const Bowling Centre to he presented to the annual meeting next Thursday night. In patriotic tournaments, more than double the amount raised the previous year was secured for the rehabilitation fund, the first, when country clubs participated, resulting in £47 2s Gd, while a further one associated with the queen carnival provided £4; 7s. Entries for centre tournaments were larger than for the previous year', HI teams playing for the Pence Shield and 40 for the Burton Cup, the latter attracting the record number of visiting teams, one of which secured the runner-up trophy, the 1). G. Robertson Shield, which went to a visiting team for the first time in the three years for which it had been competed. Gisborne club rinks won both the principal tournaments, 11. A. Armstrong skipping the one which secured the Peace Shield and P. W. Smith skipping the Burton Trophy winners. Poverty liny won the Fisken Cup, unfortunately restricted to town clubs because of the difficulty of travel, and Gisborne won the Yelvertou Shield. Poverty Bay won the champion rinks, with S. McKenzie skip, and Kahutia, with C. (1. Vail skip, won the junior rinks. The champion rinks was won by J. Park and P. W. Smith (s), Gisborne, while the same club won the intermediate pairs with W. Langlands and J. Russell (s). J. Park, Gisborne, won the champion singles for the first time, George YVeathorley, Kahutia, won the intermediate, and W. Langlands, Gisborne, the juniors. On the financial side, the executive had a successful year, the excess of income over expenditure totalling £l6 13* 7d, which was nu improvement of £ls over the previous year.
