Home Guard Dinner
Headciuarters Company of the Gisborne Battalion of the. Home Guard held a dinner and social evening at the Bon Accord on Wednesday night at which there was a large attendance. The officer conuhanding the company. Captain W. E. Chamberlain, was chairman. During the evening Lieut, F. Wiclcens made a presentation to Sapper E. Powell for the excellent assistance he had rendered to all companies of the battalion. Lieut. E. Hoooer proposed a toast to “Absent Comrades,” and Captain Chamberlain referred to the departure of the adjutant-quartermaster, Lieut. L. W. Grieve, and the R.S.M., W.0.l F. Rvan. In reply. W.0.l Ryan expressed his regret at having to leave and congratulated Staff - Sergeant Vance on remaining in Gisborne. Mention was made by several speakers of the excellent record: put up bv the company in topping the list for the shooting competition.
