WOMAN ARMY DOCTOR
AUSTRALIAN CORPS One of the three women doctors in the Australian Army Medical Corps, Major L. Laurie, is on leave in Auckland. ai'.d is staying with her sister, Miss Alison Laurie. Major Laurie was born in New Zealand, but has spent most of her life in Australia. She joined the Medical Corps nine months ago.
“t am attached as a pathologist to the 102nd General Hospital in New South Wales,” Major Laurie said. “It is a 1200-bed hospital with both medical and surgical facilities, including a neur'o-surgical uil it.” Many of the men at the hospital were casualties from tire New Guinea lighting, and the work was of a broad and extremely interesting kind. Major Laurie said she had wanted to go ovrseas with a medical unit, but the policy of the Australian authorities whs not to allow women doctors to serve abroad.
