FUSING OF INTERESTS

PRIMARY PRODUCERS

FAR-REACHING SCHEME

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 10. Far-reaching proposals for the fusing of the primary producers’ organisations of the Dominion into one big national organisation were placed before the annual meeting of the Farmers’ Federation, composed of represenlatives of various producing interests. After discussion, the proposals were referred to the incoming committee for consideration. The president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Mr. W. W. Mulholland, said certain principles had been, accepted and if completed it would mean the disappearance of two major organisations representing the producers of major commodities and with the constitution would be provision for the linking up of other producers’ organisations. It might have d profound bearing on the future policy, but he felt gratified that it had come about and he hoped it could be actively consummated. Mr. Begg, president of the Shqepowners’ Federation, said the opinion in his organisation was unanimous that closer association was very desirable.

“We see difficulties ahead,” he said, “but we think that in good time and with patience and tolerance they can be overcome.”
