WILD RIFLE SHOOTING YOUNG WOMAN WOUNDED BERSERK MAN CAPTURED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. April 9. The condition, of Miss Lily Grey, who. is in the. Wellington Hospital with a rifle wound in the abdomen received while she was boarding a train at Treatham station on Wednesday night, war'reported last night to be fair. Mies Grey is. infant mistress at the Scaioiux School. Her age is 311 and her home is 17 No ugh tan Terrace. Kilbiruie. She is a. member ot the Salvation Army and was on her way home from helping in tho Salvation; Army hut when injured.

A guard of Marines surrounded the stand and in the early stages of tho, shooting a Marine, who was removing a firearm out of reach of the demented man, was accidentally shot and seriously wounded. Miss Grey. who. would be about 100 yards from the stand, was hit by the man on top. of it. about It) p.m. while he. was shooting promiscuously-. About an hour and a half after the trouble had begun the man was arrested. He was by then unconscious,. as a result, it is surmised- of nervous; exhaustion. It is. estimated that the man who ran amok fired eight rounds from a .30 calibre sendee rifle. He was taken to hospital under guard and is under medical observation. He is a messman attached to a medical unit in the district. Hts unit has been on service in the Solomon Islands, but his personal history was no.t available yesterday. A Marine Corps board of inquiry is. investigating, the occurrence as well as the police.
