BATTLE NOT WON
NEW GUINEA FRONT ALLIED AIR MASTERY TROOPS' MORALE HIGH (2 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 5. Although air supremacy vvas definitely with the Allies in the battle now being fought in New Guinea, the battle was by no means won, said the Australian Air Minister, Mr. A. S. Drakeford, in his interview on his return from an eight-day trip to New Guinea. The Army Minister.. Mr. F. M. Forde, who has also just returned from this battle zone, said the confidence and high morale of the Australian troops fighting in the Owen Stanley ranges was most inspiring. This confidence was based on the men’s knowledge that they are proving more than a match for the enemy at his own jungle tactics and on the excellent air support they are receiving. '
