RATE COLLECTION
WAIAPU INCREASE OVER 71 PER GENT A further increase in rate collection has been secured by the Waiapu County Council up to the final'rebate date on October 1 for the present financial 'year. The county clerk, Mr A. G. Hicks, stated to-day that the council had received 71.05 per cent, of its rates in time to participate 'in the rebate, despite a higher rate collection of 3d in the £ on rateable value, compared with 2§d last year and 2gd the previous year. 1 •' - Collections to the rebate date-this year; compared with those 'to'the corresponding date last year, are shown in the following table: ■ : V "■ 1941-42 1942-43 Levies £26,320 £33,395 Collected .. .. £17,1'42 £23,928 Percent collected 65.26 -71.05 Approximately twd-thirds of the ratepayers in the Waiapu County are natives; whose proportion of rates levied is one-third of the total.
