NEW LIBERTY LOAN

STRONG APPEAL PLANNED ADVANCE SUBSCRIPTIONS EFFORT IN GISBORNE For the purpose of making a strong appeal for support of the second Liberty Loan of £10,600,000, which as to be launched shortly, a well attended meeting of representative business men was held in the Chamber of Commerce room yesterday afternoon, the Mayor. Mr. N. H. Bull, presiding. Mr. T. P. Hanna, of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, addressed the meeting. Mr. Hanna explained that in anticipation o£ the issue of the prospectus for a second Liberty Loan of £10,000,000, the Reserve Bank was desirous of forming strong local committees in all the main centres to stimulate interest in the loan. The main duty of these committees would be to direct the local publicity to ensure that the details of the loan were brought prominently before all •sections of the community. At the conclusion of Mr. Hanna’s address it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Leslie Miles, president of the Chamber of Commerce, seconded By Mr. P. C. Dwyer, district Public Trustee, that such a committee bp formed in Gisborne and the following agreed to act: Messrs. N. H. Bull, chairman, D. W. Coleman, M.F., E. ft. Beckett, H. H. Barker, F. V. Carpenter, ’ I. C. Davis, P C. Dwyer, A. F. Excell, A. A. Fraser, K. B. Garland, H. E. Garth. H. C. Hanes, A. F. Houston. L. Miles, L. C. Parker, John Peach, A. M. Robertson, L. F. Saften, A. F. Salmon, \V. G. Sherratt. A. J. Stock, K. R. Waite, W. R. B. Willock. W. W. Wrightson and Mrs. V. F. Wise, with power to add. Executive Elected Subsequently an executive committee was elected, consisting of Messrs. W. G. Sherratt, P. C. Dwyer, A. M. Robertson, A. A. Fraser, F. V. Carpenter. IC. R. Waite, H. E. Garth, A- F. Houston. L. Miles and W. R. B. Willock, with power to add. Mir. Sherratt was appointed chairman of the executive, with Mr. Dwyer as deputy chairman, and Mr. J. A. Macleocl as hon. secretary. Interviewed after the meeting, Mr. Hanna expressed his satisfaction that such a strong committee had bfebri formed in Gisborne, and stressed the (joint that everybody must realise that the Empire could not carry on total war without total effort, and that one of the ways in which the people bf this Dominion could contribute to this effort was by subscribing to war loans. Already, he continued, over £1,600,000 had been subscribed in advance for the new loan and advance subscriptions were still "being received.
