A.T.C. HARRIERS Not since the (.lay when C, McDonald, UHayes, and T. Kent won the relay race from Ormond to town has such enthusiasm been seen in a road relay race as on Saturday afternoon, when 24 harriers, the largest iield to compete in a race in Gisborne, ran a three-lap race from the Bridge Hotel to the town clock. The winning team comprised H. Crosby, W. Stevenson and R. McKone. The second lap was run by visiting runners who could he classed among the host in New Zealand. They were E. Help bard, I). W. Squire, R. Minnery, S. J. O'Gorman, It, D. McKoue, W. W. Rangumia and J. Matheson, who each represented one team. , _ At the end of the first lap Boniface was first in, followed by Hansen and Stevenson, and at the end of the second lap the placings had undergone a change, Matheson finishing .-first, O’Gorman second, and McKone third. Woods was away first for the third lap, followed by- Marshall and Crosby. Passing Roebuck road Woods still held the lead, but Crosby had moved into second place and Marshall had dropped back to third. From here Crosby got properly into his stride, with Marshall close on his heels, followed by Stichbury. Over the last 100 yards. Crosby put on a great sprint, winning by 10yds. from Marshall, with Stichbury third. . After the race the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea by the local cadets, during which L. Third, club captain, welcomed them, congratulated the winners and thanked the friends who had conveyed the harriers to their starting points. J. Matheson replied, and mentioned the pleasure it gave the visiting runners to see such enthusiasm in harrier work. Messrs T. R. Gordon and C. E. Brown acted as timekeeper and starter respectively.
