POSTHUMOUS AWARD
RED INDIAN GUNNER HEROISM IN AIR FIGHT (Special Australian Correspondent.) (9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug 13. Sergeant Ralph Sam, the fullblooded Indian hero of a recent Allied dive-bombing raid, who continued to fire on the attacking Zeros with his revolver after his right hand had been shot away, * has been posthumously awarded the American Silver Star for bravery. , , . ■The loss of his hand made it impossible for him to handle the bombers guns. Sergeant Sam suffered severe wounds and lost much blood. He died a few days later.
