FRENCH LIBERATION

WHEN GERMANY WINS

LAVAL’S OPINION (2.15 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 11. “The hour of liberation for France will be the hour when Germany wins the war,” declared M. LaVal. the Vichy Premier, addressing 1000 French war prisoners at Compiegne, where they were exchanged for Workers going to Germany. M. Laval added: "You will better understand France now you have returned. You have known bitterness in exile. You are the best workers for the liberation of your comrades who are still in prison camps. There are still 1.200,000 French war prisoners in Germany. Hitler seeks 150,000 specialised workers, and has agreed to release 50,000 prisoners when they are despatched.” The Moscow radio said that thousands of French- war prisoners at Hesse, Germany, are working 14 to 16 hours daily. They are fed on soup from rotten groats and often do not receive bread. The sick are not given medical aid, and 10 to 15 die daily.
