CALL-UP IN CHINA
6,000,000 MORE FOR ARMY APPLICABLE TO ALL (10.30 a.m.) CHUNGKING, July 15. General Cheng Cheh-Yuen announced that the Chinese Government is conscripting 6,000,000 men aged 18 to 40, in preparation for a further three years of war. General Cheng said the men would be fully trained and all would be required to drive the Japanese from China. The new army will be drawn from rich and poor alike which is a revolutionary departure from the system whereby the wealthy were permitted to purchase exemption. Henceforth, regardless of economic status, whether Government officials or farmers, all will be liable to the draft. At present China has 5,000,000 regulars and 800,000 guerrillas, plus 15,000,000 in reserve units or undergoing training.
