COMPASSIONATE SUMS

M.PS WHO DIED IN ARMY (S.R.) WELLINGTON, this day. Details of the public accounts, which have become available, show that the Government has made the following compassionate grants to widows of members of the House of Representatives who died while on active service:-Lieut.-Colonel J. M. Allen, £500; Major A. N. Grigg, £500; Lieut. A. G. Hultquist, £SOO. The widow of the late Public Service Commissioner, Mr. T. Mark, has received a compassionate grant of £ISOO.
