Control &Y countleis COOK COUNCiL DISAGREES A proposal th,dt county -councils should assume ddininistfation :of the Noxious Webds Act whs not agreed to by the Cook. County Council to-day, when a letter Was read from the Wdiroa provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union. The letter , stated that, the recent Farmers’ Union conference in Gisborne recommended that the coiipty councils should administer the Act, ana members expressed their willingness to be rated as an insurance against the menace, that applying to members. Who were at present completely free of noxious weeds. The chairman, Mr. W. Q. Bherratt, reported that the Y'diroa Cdtinty Council had hot agreed to the proposal. Mr. P. D. Tombleson: We should have dohe that, before the war When we had plenty of ldboiir. Mr. E. H. Baker said he did not agree with any such ; action at present, but southing might Have to be done after the war. other, members expressed .the opinion that the time was not dppijrttine for county councils to take such action, and the council passed a motion to that effect.
