BRITISH WAR EFFORT SHIPBUILDING PROGRESS (British Official Wireless.) (2 p.m.) RUGBY, July 14. The Minister of Production, Captain O. Lyttelton, speaking in the Hous'd of Commons’ debate on the estimates, said that scientific organisation _ had reached the highest state of efficiency and .there was no branch of..the war to which the Prime Minister, Mf. Wihston Churchill, devoted more, attention. He had inspired scientists to invent new weapon! of v/ar. Captain Lyttelton described the organisation he had set up to deal with war production. In 1940 Britain had to concentrate on aircraft or die. In 1941 the emphasis was more on tanks. Now the means of transporting the weapons of war was of first importance, and he was making arrangements for the transfer of skilled labour to shipbuilding. Referring to the American shipbuilding programme, he said that vessels were being .turned out at an almost unbelievable rate.
