SOLDIERS ON LEAVE

MAY DO CIVIL JOBS AUSTRALIAN RULING (10 a.m.) CANBERRA, July 15. The Federal Cabinet has given a ruling that soldiers may ride racehorses or play professional sport on leave days. Accountants, solicitors, and doctors may also follow their professions while on leave. The Minister of the Army, Mr. F. M. Ford, said that so long as a soldier attended training regularly on the days he was expected to be in camp, the Government did not propose to dictate to him what he should do on his day of rest. It was far better for soldiers on leave to engage in healthy sport or other recreation than hang round the cities with nothing definite to do.
