Mr. L. B. H. de Latour, Mayor of Tai'hape. has resighed his position because of ill-health. Those present at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council were the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, Messrs. H. H. De Costa, G. J. Jeune, G. D. Muirhead, J. H. Hall, M. J. White, F. Tolerton and R. Morse. Mr. J. E. Thomas, rationing controller, and Mr. G. L. Riley, secretary of the New Zealand Drapers’ Federation, arrive in Gisborne to-day. Mr. Thomas is to discuss rationing matters with local business people concerned at a meeting to be held this evening. Two Gisborne nurses at the Midwives’ Training College, Wellington, Sisters R. Armstrong Nelson and F. A. Steele, were among those who were successful in the latest State examinations. Sister Steele has been spending a holiday with her parents in Gisborne, and left to-day to join the staff of the Waihi Hospital.
