, FARMERS RELEASED MUST JOIN GUARD ' APPEAL BOARD SITTING More applications for leave from camp were heard yesterday afternoon by the Gisborne Armed Forces Appeal Board, over which Mr. F. R. Ball presided, with him being Messrs. J. E. Benson and C. E. Bickford. An application for leave from military camp of Te Ohaki H. T. Porter was lodged by his wife, Mrs. Ada - (Porter. In support, Mr. F. W. Nolan said that Mrs. Porter was running a 195-acre farm near Puha carrying 52 cows. She cropped 30 acres of oats and wheat, and her only assistance was that of her brothers, who intended leaving’ to do shearing when the season commenced. The secretary of the Kia Ora Co-operative Dairy Company, who was supervising the property through the Tairawhiti Maori Land Board, said the farm was a good productive one.—The committee recommended that indefinite immediate leave be granted, the reservist to join cue Home Guard. The appellant also asked that if a re-hearing was granted, that the case should be neard, as the reservist was to go into camp the following day. D. W. McKeague said that he required 14 days’ postponement of the reservist’s service, as’h'is father had taken ill and had been unable to come to the shop to take the reservist’s place.—The committee decided to postpone the call-up until July 20.
