BOMBS ON MALTA

LITTLE DAMAGE DONE (9 a.m.) LONDON, July 2. Two formations of enemy bombers crossed the coast of Malta last night and dropped bombs on the centre of the island, but little damage was done. The heavy anti-aircraft batteries were continually in action to-day. There were four alerts in the morning, and during the afternoon a single bomber with a large fighter escort dropped one bomb. Spitfires went up and destroyed one German fighter and damaged others. There were no civilian casualties.
