WAIROA’S BLACKOUT
A SUCCESSFUL TEST (Herald Correspondent.) Although there were about CO minor breachofi ,of the regulations and half a dozen flagrant cases of disregard, Wairoa’s first black-out trial on Thursday between 8.30 and 9. p.m. was regarded by the, authorities as very successful., Fifty wardens patrolled tho various blocks and their reports were tabulated. In many instances light was seen coming from the sides of blinds and through partly-shaded fanlights. Other cases included the careless opening of doors, insufficient thickness of covering material, a rubbish fire, and lights on motor vehicles. Where adverse reports have been received, tho narpe of offenders have been handed to the, authorities and these persons may expect a visit from an official at an early date. Prosecution will follow if the offence is repeated. Assisting in the work was the signalling unit of the W.W.S.A., which sent in reports from the hills.
