BRITISH EQUALITY IN WEAPONS
DESTRUCTION OF ENEMY LIKELY
MR. CHURCHILL SURVEYS WAR
(Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Dec. 27,10.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Dee. 26.
During' his speech to Congress to-day, the British Prime Minister, Mr. Winston Churchill said that, though our armies of ,thc Bast were so weak and ill-equipped at one period, we now controlled all the region from Teheran to Benghazi and down to the sources of the Nile. For many months we had devoted ourselves to taking the offensive in Libya with the big battle during the past six weeks. Owing to difficulties of supply we were never able .to bring to bear against the enemy a force that was nearly equal to his in strength. However, with the- assistance of American planes and tanks we were able to fight the Hun for the first time with equal weapons and for the first time make him feel the sharp edge of our sword. The enemy had assembled an army of 150,000 men, including one-third Germans, and'Mr. Churchill was firmly convinced that its final destruction would be effected.
“This is proof that, with the proper weapons, we will be able to beat the life out of the savage Nazis,” Mr. Churchill said. “What Hitler is suffering in Libya is only a sample of what we will be giving him in all parts of the world.”
