ARMY CHANGE
FORCES IN AUSTRALIA SYDNEY, Dec. 24. The appointment of Major-General H. D. Wynter as General Officer Commanding the Eastern Command, which is the key military district in Australia. is believed to be the forerunner of several changes in high army post's. Major-General Wynter, aged 55. who has been given the temporary rank of Fcutenant-gerieral,' succeeds Lieuten-ant-General C. G. N. Miles, aged 57. Tn announcing the change, the Minister for the Army, Mr. Forde, said the Government had acted in accordance with its policy of placing younger men in high military positions. The appointment is regarded as an indication that the Government required more drive and initiative in its defence policy. Major-General Wynter is an obvious choice. He is a keen student of military history and strategy, with original views on and an exceptional understanding of Australian defence problems. He is one of those who has persistently advocated the need of army and air-co-operation.
