Red Cross Function

Prior to her departure as a member of the New Zealand Red Cross V.A.D., Miss Shona Williams, a member of the musing division of the Gisborne branch, was the guest of her fellowmembers, and the men’s division at an enjoyable function held at the Bon •ord rooms last evening. Com- | mander T. Bury presided over an attendance of between CO and 70 and a most enjoyable evening was spent m competitions, music and social intercourse. During an interval Dr. Theodora Hall, divisional surgeon, congratulated Miss Williams on her appointment, and told her that she would carry with her the best wishes of the Gisborne Red Cross division. On behalf of the nursing division, Dr. Hall handed Miss Williams a handsome bouquet. Commander Bury also congratulated Miss Williams, and said he desired to take advantage of the opportunity to welcome to the gathering Private C. Webster, of the New Zealand Medical Corps, who was home on leave. Private Webster was an enthusiastic member of the men’s division. The speaker handed Private Webster a silver-plated safety razor accompanied by the best wishes of his former comrades. Keen enthusiasm was witnessed in the competitions, which were won by Miss P. Tier and I Quartermaster T. Sangwell. Songs were contributed by Misses L. Bimler and B. Bailey, and Privates M. Thodey I and J. Turbitt.
