* SUMMONS NEXT WEEK WAR CABINET TALKS USE OF DEFENCE UNITS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An announcement that Parliament would be called together next week, probably on Thursday, December 18, was made by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, at the conclusion of a meeting of the War Cabinet just before midnight last night. The meeting was attended by the Chiefs of Staffs of the fighting forces. Mr. Fraser said the meeting had been engaged on work arising from the war situation. The question of the most effective utilisation of our local forces was under consideration and the part to be played by the Emergency Precautions Scheme and Home Guard was being 1 reviewed. The effect of the holiday season on war activities was being considered, and an announcement of the War Cabinet’s decisions in regard to these various matters would be made without delay. Mr. Fraser reached Wellington late in the afternoon. He had travelled by special aeroplane from Gisborne to Rongotai. The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, has also arrived in Wellington.

The Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, stated last night that now New Zealand was at war with Japan the terms of the enemy trading and enemy property emergency regulations, 1939 and amendments, became applicable. The following territories are classified as enemy territories within the meaning of the regulations: Japan. Korea, Manchuria, Formosa, Japanese islands and mandated islands, Indo China, Japanese-occupied China, but excluding Macao and the international settlement and the French settlement.

Mr. Sullivan said that no person may trade or have any dealings with any of the enumerated countries, or with any person declared by the Government to be an enemy tradei within the meaning of the regulations. Persons possessing, controlling or managing enemy property are required to furnish full particulars to the Public Trustee within 14 days.
