SOUTHERN REPUBLICS SEVERAL DECLARE WAR ARGENTINA NEUTRAL (Reed. Dec. 9, 10.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 8. The State Department in Washington said that all other American Republics had been informed of the treacherous attacks by Japan and that the United States had received “very heartening messages of support “from the other American Republics. A report from Buenos Aires says that the acting-President of Argentina, Dr. Castillo, said that Argentina would maintain absolute neutrality in the Pacific crises.
The President of the Philippines, Dr. Quezon, in a telephone conversation to Washington, said the Philippines “is fully prepared for the fight ahead.” Already 120,000 Filipinos have been mobilised.
A message from Monte Video says that the President of Uruguay, General Baldomar, in a speech, said it was Uruguay’s duty to enter into military collaboration with the other American nations and construct air bases, not only for their own use but to provide facilities for the air fleets of the whole of America.
A San Jose message reports that Costa Rica has declared war against Japan. A report from Managua says that Nicaragua has declared war against Japan.
