ITALIANS WORRIED
“THANKLESS TASK” FUNCTIONS OF NATION (Reed. Dec. 3, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 1. The Rome correspondent of the British United Press says that an article in the Popolo d’ltalia admits that Italy is worried by the Libyan situation. The paper says: “It is always a thankless task to struggle against an. enemy possessing overwhelming numerical superiority and great reserves. Italy’s functions in the ' general war economy constitutcanother thankless task. Nevertheless, we will win and Italy will gain great splendour.” The German spokesman in Berlin said yesterday: “The fundamental question as to whether the British offensive in Libya has failed will be known in a few days. The Libyan battle is of great significance. The battle is continuing incessantly, and points are continually changing hands.”
