GISBORNE CRICKET
YOUNG PLAYERS WANTED DRAW FOR SATURDAY The encouraging of schoolboy cricketers to join clubs on leaving school was discussed at the weekly meeting last night of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association. A letter was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council requesting all associations to do all in their power to encourage boys leaving school to play for club teams. Messrs. Beutfi and Cook agreed to supply the association after the school holidays with a list of any promising schoolboy players who had just left school in an endeavour to have these placed in the various clubs. Those present at the meeting were Mr. P. C. Dwyer, chairman, Brother Edwin, and Messrs. A. E. Bignall, R. 11. Cook, M. H. Beuth, B. Lee, M. G. Robinson, E. Judge, G. E. Slade, and 1). A. Wells, lion, secretary. Mr. Cook advised the committee that the Gisborne High School would be playing only one Senior B Grade team during the school holidays. Permission was granted by the committee for boys leaving school at the end of the year to continue playing for the school teams until the end of the holidays. Mr. Bignall advised that Mr. G. E. Lord had been appointed official time-keeper by the Umpires’ Association, but in his absence Mr. G. Lyuex, or any of the umpires present, might take his place. The junior grade competition will close on Saturday, December 13, this being the final day until the schools re-open in February. The draw for next Saturday resulted as follows:
Senior A Grade.—Marist v. City, Oval No. 1 wicket; G.H.5.0.8. v. Old Boys-Civil Service, Oval No. 2. Senior B Grade.—High School A v. Marist. Oval No. 3; High School B v. G.H.5.0.8., Oval No. 4; Gisborne Club, a bye. Junior Grade.—High School A v. Marist, High School Baths wicket; High School B• v. Intermediate B, Oval representative wicket; Intermediate A v. High School Rectory, High School Rectory wicket.
