Farmers and Vegetables
The statement that in England farmers supplied more vegetables than did the market gardeners themselves, whereas he could give an emphatic denial to any suggestion that New Zealand farmers grew enough for their own requirements and over, was made by Mr. Pritchard, of the Department of Agriculture, when giving evidence in Wellington, before the tribunal inquiring into the price of vegetables. He agreed, however, that good grassland worth £IOO an acre would not necessarily stand up to intensive market gardening.
