Regulation of Imports.
“Britain is so busy that so far as imports from the United Kingdom are concerned they regulated themselves within the limits of our ability to buy," said Sir Charles Norwood. speaking at the annual meet-, ing of the New Zealand Importers’ Federation in Wellington. “One would like, to see an economic study of the finances of this war as against the last war," lie added. “Because .of the British war effort, very little could be imported in the last war and what was imported was in the range of the finances of this country. Probably it will be found that the position in this war is the same." The president, Mr. G. W. Guthrie, said a tremendous amount of contro. was only natural because Britain hTd to look further ahead than in tin last war, when she had so many allies. So many former allies oi the Great War were not now in apposition to assist.
