MAORI PIG CLUB
MAHIA PENINSULA FIRST BALLOT HELD A meeting of the Mahia Pig Club was held on Mr. Paihau Wairau’s farm last week, when the first'litter from the club’s Tamworth sow was balloted for. This litter was a good one. returning a weight of 2661 b. at 56 days for seven nigs. The heaviest pig weighed 451 b. This result was very good for a maiden litter and reflects great credit on the custodian, Mr. Pnihnu Wairnu. Thc-re was a fair attendance of club members. Five out of the seven pigs were passed as fit for breeding and balloted for.
The re=ult of the ballot was as follows:—For sow pigs: Messrs Wairoa Whaanga. Paihau Wairau and A. O’Dowd. For boar pigs: Messrs. P. McKay and O. McKay. This pig club, which started six months ago. should effect a great improvement in both the number and quality of the pigs produced on the peninsula. Keen interest is being shown by tho members. Climatic and soil conditions are good, and there is every indication that both dairy and pig production will increase considerably there in the next few years.
