FIRST ANNUAL SHOW

TIKITIKI NATIVE’ SCHOOL (Herald Correspondent.) The fir.-1 annual show sponsored by the Tikitiki Native District High School was'held in the school grounds. The weather wa.s perfect and there w? ) attendance of several hundred people. The school consists of a large block of modern open-air buildings, together with secondary classroom and newlycompleted manual and science block set in attractive grounds. The show events were held on the playing field, where there was an animated sstene |as the events commenced with the parade of calves reared by the school calf club. Over (10 calves were reared this year end of these 40 were oaraded. ThC’-e were some attractive animals. r md the judge, Mr. C. 11. Cooper. Patulnhi. commended the children for (he •interest they had taken in the work. The children’s riding classes were very well patronised and provided great interest. In general the ponies were well got up. although there was room for improvement in handling some of the mounts. The entries in the adult section for dairy cows were not it)) to expectations. but the quality was good. All the horse events in the adult section were well patronised, the entries for heavy horses being of particularly good quality and nicely got up. In the hack section, while the quality was good, the standard of riding was unfinished. There was a large entry in this section and great enthusiasm was displayed by the crowd. Mr. J. H. McNeil. Tikitiki. judged the horse .events. After the field events had beer judged the headmaster. Mr. T. A Murphy, thanked the judges for their services, and particularly Mr. Cooper who had journeyed from Gisborne for the occasion.

The sale of a fine variety of sewing woodwork and tinwork followed, all the articles being made at the school. Vegetables from the school garden and eggs from the secondary pupils’ poultry club also were sold. Tea was dispensed from a cafeteria run by the pupils in charge of Mrs. P. H. Bolwer. domestic science instructress. Great interest was taken in r demonstration of the art of spinning. This attractive item on the programme was in the hands of a group of members of the Gisborne Spinning Circle. The entire show is expected to show a profit of £4O. The headmaster was congratulated on the efficient manner in which he had organised the [unction.
