LEAVE FOR SOLDIER
MOTHERLESS CHILDREN
Advice of successful representations in the case of a soldier serving overseas Whose wife died leaving three young children and who Was not given leave to return to New Zealand was reported to the Auckland Returned Service’s Association by the Dominion headquarters of the organisation. Information had previously been received that the circumstances of the case did not appear to warrant such a course.
Headquarters stated that on the receipt of the request from Auckland a telephone call was made to the office of the Minister of Defence and it was stated the whole question was under consideration. Inquiries every day 'brought the same ’ reply until November 18, when it was stated that Army Headquarters had cabled to the Middle East Headquarters requesting that the soldier be granted requisite leave.
