MAORI SOLDIERS
REHABILITATION PROBLEM The return of Maoris to the land with the extension of the land development scheme and the training of Maori youths in trades were two of the means of solving the problem of post-war rehabilitation suggested by, Mr. J, G. Harvey, judge of the Native Land Court, when addressing the Rotorua Rotary Club. The speaker suggested that after the . war the population of New Zealand might be doubled and that there was need to prepare for a,,considerable influx of people. , A committee.already had been established in Rotorua to study the welfare of the Maori returned soldier. , “We should do. some practical thinking and strive, hard to get together proper materials for use in Maori houses,” said Mr. Harvey. “We should also endeavour, to have welfare officers appointed to keep in touch with the Maoris and the department. This has been done before, but has not met with very great success.”
