BAPTIST CHURCH
SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY The thirty-fourth anniversary services of the Baptist Sunday School, held on Sunday, drew large congregations. Special music was rendered by the scholars, assisted by the church choir under the baton of Mr. W. R. Kemp, with Mr. Harold Dunstan at the organ and Miss Margaret Kemp as pianist. Songs by pupils of the primary grade, led by Miss Peggy. Moss, were a feature of the morning and afternoon services. Soloists in the morning were Claire Te Whata, Ellen Sharpies, Pamela Kemp .and Gordon I-lambly, and, at the ; afternoon service Unice Knowles, Myrtle Moss, Shirley Parry and. Aldwyth Kemp.' The morning preacher was the Rev. A Blakemore, of the Methodist Church, . who spoke to the children about famous heroes of history. Mrs. Adjutant Read,, of the.. Salvatiori Army, addressed the children in the afternoon, her subject being “Trees." The pastor of the church, the Rev. F. A. Parry, was the preacher in the evening, his address being to the parents, who were exhorted to give their children that spiritual help which would stand by them in later years and make them strong in Chriv tian character.
The anniversary celebrations were concluded ldst evening, when ladies of the, church, under the leadership of Mrs. H. K, Bergersen prepared tea for the children. This was followed by the annual concert and prizegiving, when Mrs. T. E. Toneycliffe presented the prizes. Songs were given by the primary grade, Ray Harhbly, Shirley Parry, Unice Knowles, Claire Te Whata and Betty and Patty Moss, action songs by Grace Harkess, Margaret Dudley arid Miss B. Simpson’s class, piano duets by George and Robert Barnwell and Aldwyth and Margaret Kemp, a missionary tableau, “Flowers in God's Garden, by the “Ropeholders,” recitations by Douglas Te Whata and Ross Aitken, a tap dance by Coleen Anderson, and sketches, ‘“Ten Little Boys and Girls,” “The Cook’s Conversion,” “Nursery Rhymes,” and “Statues.’
