FLAG DAY SALES
PATRIOTIC EFFORT TO-MORROW’S CAMPAIGN Residents of the Gisborne and East Coast district will have the opportunity to-morrow to contribute in small amounts to the general funds of the East Coast Provincial Patriotic Council, through the medium of a flagday effort conducted by agencies of the council. Last year a similar effort yielded under £3OO, but that result was obtained almost entirely in the business area of Gisborne. This year the appeal is organised on lines similar to those of the annual Poppy Day appeal of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and officers and supporters of that association are prominent in the campaign throughout the district. The present conflict in the Western Desert, in which the New Zealand Expeditionary Force is playing a brilliant part, has focussed the attention of the public, and there should be no difficulty in raising a large sum by to-morrow's campaign. The number of volunteers for selling work gives a sufficient indication of the appeal which this effort is exerting. There is a possibility, however, that a proportion of the public may not be directly approached with requests to purchase flags. ,The campaign committee asks that these people will help the campaign by seeking out sellers, if necessary.
A depot will be opened to-morrow morning in shop premises adjoining Le Grand Cafe, and sellers will be at work from an early hour.
