Mrs. W. Paltridge, Gisborne, is the guest of the Rev. J. G. B. and Mrs. Talbot, “The Vicarage,” Wairoa. Mr. E. T. Giddens, E.M.LMech.E., formerly of Dunedin, has taken up an appointment as technical officer in the New Zealand Government Liaison Office in Melbourne. Sub-Inspector G. H. Lambert, who has been in charge of the Gisborne police district during the absence of Inspector D. A. Mac Lean, left this morning on his return to Wellington. Inspector Mac Lean was expected back in Gisborne to-day. The Rt. Rev. P. W. Stephenson, Bishop of Nelson, arrived at Wairoa from Gisborne on Monday to conduct confirmation services in St. Paul’s Anglican Church. He was the guest of the vicar, the Rev. J. G. B. Talbot and Mrs. Talbot, and left yesterday by railcar on his return to Nelson.
A record unique among flying men in New Zealand will be celebrated in Hokitika on November 29, when Mr. J. C. Mercer, chief pilot of AiTravel (New Zealand) Limited, and former pilot instructor for the Canterbury Aero Club, will be guest of honour. The gathering is being held to recognise his attainment of 10,000 hours, which means 1,000,000 miles or more, in the air as a pilot.
