Double Taxation
Sir.-—lt would be interesting! to know if the remit, sent, to the conference by our Borough Council, received' the unanimous support of councillors. The remit referred to urges the Government to take over the entire expenditure on hospitals, or at least to limit local body contributions. The Labour councillors surely did not support such a proposal', and it is doubtful if all members of the Citizens’ Association would support it. A remit that' is proposed to be sent to the Municipal Conference from another district should be supported by Gisborne delegates. The remit reads: “That, in the event of the Municipal Conference deciding to recommend to the Government that one system only of local body rating be made mandatory for the Dominion, the unimproved value system be the one supported, this being in line with modern liberal thought, and as advocated in the bill brought down by the Rt. Hon. R. ,T. Seddon, Premier of New Zealand, in 1901.” R.U.V.
