PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS (Herald Correspondent.) In his leport to the annual meeting of the Waikohu Returned Soldiers’ Auxiliary Committee, the chairman, the Rev. J. D. Hodgson, stated: — “The number of parcels sent to our men overseas is 147 cakes and 132 woollen articles. The financial report does not mention the ingredients for the cakes or the time expended in knitting the wool and the committee is very grateful for the help given in this way. The average cost of postage, tins, wool, and packing of each parcel, however, fs such that some finance will have to be raised this year if the work is to be carried on. We have received a number of appreciative letters from the boys overseas and other messages which indicate that the effort is worth while. The committee has joined in the quarterly patriotic scheme. Our first dispatch of parcels overseas numbered seven, but it has risen now to 37, and so entails a considerable amount of work both in preparation and dispatch. “We regret the loss of Private W*. Ruru. killed in action. Private J. R. Brown, Sergeant P. H. Jones, Gunner Tuhura Haami, and Private D. J. Goodley are prisoners of war.” The following officers were elected: Chairman, the Rev. J. D. Hodgson; lion, secretary, Mr. S. S. Smitners; lion, treasurer, Mr. J. G. Appleton; committee, Mesdames J. D. Hodgson, C. C. Dowding, and J. G. Appleton, Miss L. Ruru and Mr. P. Hardacre.
