SIX WEEK’S GAOL
CONSCIENCE OBJECTOR ARMY ORDER IGNORED (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Nov. 24. Brought before the Magistrate’s Court by a military escort. George Ayson Watts, formerly a lorry driver, Wanganui, was sentenced to six weeks’ gaol on a charge of failing to obey an order to draw battledress from the quartermaster’s store at Palmerston North camp. The defendant, who pleaded not guilty, said his earlier appeal on conscious grounds was- dismissed. He was interested in Jehovah’s Witnesses. He . had been declared unfit for overseas service. The defendant added that it was against the laws of the Bible to have anything to do with the armed forces. To do so would be helping to kill Mr. Hi P. LaWry, S.M., said he could not override the appeal board.
