Abandoned Taupo Railway
The protracted dispute over the continuation of the railway from Rotorua to Taupo, which resulted in £75,000 being spent, on preliminary work in 1928, has ever since then hindered land transfers near Whakarewarewa, where a strip of land was reserved for the railway. !By proclamation in the Gazette this reservation has now 'been revoked, apparently ending a controversy which as recently as 1939 was the subject of a petition to Parliament.
