COOK HOSPITAL NEW APPOINTMENTS The Cook Hospital Board yesterday afternoon decided to appoint Dr. Margaret Macdonald as senior house surgeon at the Cook Hospital, and Dr. J. Dovi as junior house surgeon, both to commence duty early in the new year. Pending their reporting for duty, the hospital will be staffed by the medical superintendent and surgical registrar, Drs. R. J. B. and Theodora Hall, Dr. J. S. Tomb, radiologist, and Dr. Morey house surgeon, with the aid of two sixth-year medical students who will be available during part of their vacation.

Dr. Margaret Macdonald was previously in the Cook Hospital, as a house surgeon, and Dr. Dovi, now in Fiji, likewise served the board previously. Both are desirous'of returning to hospital work after occupying civil-service appointments. To Start in New Year It is expected that both appointees will be available by the time Drs. R. J. B. and Theodora Hall proceed on leave. If they are not available, emergency arrangements will be made to relieve the medical superintendent and registrar without leaving the hospital understaffed medically. The board discussed in committee a letter from Dr. Theodora Hall concerning her leave period and also an increase in her salary. The board complied with both requests. At a later stage in the meeting, the .board discussed at length a recommendation from the finance committee that in view of the nature of his work, Dr. J. S. Tomb be granted an additional period of two weeks’ leave per annum. The recommendation was adopted after the medical superintendent had replied to a number of questions, particularly concerning the exact duties performed by Dr. Tomb.
