POLICE LAUNCH

FAST VESSEL IMPRESSED A fast cruiser type launch, the Tiromoana, which has been impressed by the Marine Department, has been handed over to the Auckland police for use as a patrol vessel. Mr. R. Ward, superintendent at Auckland, said tha£ the launch will go into service in a few days. The Tiromoana was owned by Mr. W. Evans, of Auckland. It is 37ft. long, with a 10ft. beam and draught of 3ft. 6in., and is powered by a Diesel engine. When commissioned, the launch will be continuously manned, and will earry a nominal crew of three, ' working aft' eight-hour shift. Eight bunks are provided.
