“NO GRUMBLERS”

NEW ZEALAND CAMPS VISIT BY MR. JORDAN (From the Official War Correspondent with the N.Z.E.F.) (Reed. Nov. 24, 9 a.m.) CAIRO, Nov. 21. “No grumblers,” said the New Zealand High Commissioner in London. Mr. W. J. Jordan, after an inspection of the New Zealand camps in the Middle East. He has visited troops in the forward areas, and during the last two days covered the base camos, seeing the troops in training, asking them questions about the use of their arms, inspect'ng the living conditions, and inquiring into their welfare. Mr. Jordan chatted with individual men. and in his homely, confiding way questioned them and found what they really thought about things. He was agreeably surprised to find expressions of s-'fisfaction with the food and living conditions, and particularly pleased at the cordial relations which apparently existed between the officers and men. At one unit cookhouse Mr. Jordan helned to serve out the food. "This tucker is good,” he said_, “hotter than we had in the last war.” He saw the Kiwi concert party working on their second programme, and was pleased at the high standard of entertainment offered, by this unit. Late on Tuesday afternoon the ladies of the Maadi tent entertained him.

“This recreation tent,” he told them, “is one of the finest institutions of its kind I have seen, and on behalf of the people and Government of New Zealand I wish to thank the ladies of Maadi for their untiring work in looking after the welfare of our soldiers.”

To-day Mr. Jordan is visiting a Middle East port.
