APPEAL TO LABOUR

DELAY “SHOP” FIGHT MR. WILLKIE OUTSPOKEN (Reed. Nov. 20. noon.) NEW YORK. Nov. 19. The Republican Party i leader, Mr. Wendell Willkie, in a speech in accepting the Churchman award “for the promotion of goodwill and better understanding among ail people,” urged Labour to delay the fight for the “closed shop,” but said that President Roosevelt was mostly to blame for the Labour crisis because he had failed to enunciate a clear and open policy. Mr. Willkie urged Labour to clean up its own house by throwing out racketeering leaders. He said that Labour should be represented directly in the “very marrow of our Government —in the small group on which is placed responsibility in winning this war.”
