DEATH AT 85 YEARS
FORMER LEGISLATOR MR. GEORGE WITTY (Per Presa Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The death is announced of Mr. George Witty, a former M.P. and M.L.C., aged 85. Born in North Ferriby, Yorkshire, in 1856, Mr. Witty came to New Zealand in 1875, and farmed property at West Melton, Templeton and Avonhead. He served on many public bodies before entering Parliament for Riccarton in 1902, holding the seat until 1925. He became a member of the Legislative Council that year, serving until 1932,
