MOBILE X-RAY UNIT
TUBERCULOSIS CHECK MAORI TRUST BOARD (Per Press .Association.) NEW..PLYMOUTH, this day. The purchase of a mobile X-ray unit for the ‘detection of tuberculosis is to be undertaken by the Taranaki Maori Trust Board, which was waited upon yesterday by a deputation consisting of the chairmen of the four Taranaki hospital boards, local bodydelegates and representatives of South Taranaki women’s organisations. The decision is the outcome of negotiations initiated some months ago by .members of the Hawera Hospital Board, who expressed alarm at :the increasing prevalence of tuberculosis among Maoris. The unit, which will cost £2200, will be controlled and maintained by the Taranaki hospital boards, but it is stipulated that the Maori people Will have the first call on its use.
