NORTH AFRICAN POST NAZIS FEARED POWER COMMANDER OF FORCES (Reed. Nov. 20, 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 19, Quoting private sources, the United Press of America says .that the Vichy Government on Tuesday dismissed General Weygand from his presen' Dost as delegate-general in North Africa in order to please Hitler. It !is stated that General Weygalnd will not be.replaced due to the special nature Of his African job. General Weygand arrived in Vichy earlier in the week, and-it was suggested that hir visit was concerned With Gerrrian pressure on VTchy for nfs "appointment as ’>Var 'Minister ‘in succession tc General Hunfziger, who was killed in an air : crash. _ , Thc..Germans .felt that in his present, post General, Weygand, as su'preine commander of tile French forces in Africa, was too independent, and at Vichy he would be . more under the control of Admiral Darlan.
